Article III. Political Parties
Sets rules for registration, recognition, and conduct of student political parties, including eligibility restrictions.
Political party. "Political party" or "party", when used in this Code, means an organized group of persons pursuing the same ideology, political ideas or platforms of student government.
Section 2.Registration. Any organized group of persons seeking registration as a student political party may file with the University Student Government Commission on Election a verified petition attaching thereto its constitution and by-laws, platform or program of the party, list of members and such other relevant information as may be required by the Student Government Commission on Election. The Student Government Commission on Election members shall, after due notice and meetings, resolve the petition within ten (10) days from the date it is submitted for decision.
Section 3.No religious sect shall be registered as a political party and no political party which seeks to achieve its goal through violence shall be entitled to accreditation.
Section 4.Holding of Political Conventions. Any registered political party may hold political agreements/meetings to nominate their official candidates for all elective positions, a week before the filing of the Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance.
Section 5.Political Party Head:
- A political party must have one (1) Chairperson.
- The Political Party Chairperson shall be elected by direct vote of the students who are members of the same political party.
- The elected Political Party Chairperson shall have the following duties:
- Serve as the head of the political party.
- Organize the structure and flow of the party.
- Be responsible for membership and political party documents.
- Authorize and approve nominations and substitutions within the political party.
